The Oaxaca Film Festival for Life offers free workshops and panels to bring cinema closer to the local population and strengthen the film industry in the region. The initiative aims to promote emerging filmmakers from the south of the country, encourage the formation of new talents, and create a meeting point for creators, audiences, and industry professionals.
One of the highlighted workshops is the Oaxaca Cinematic Pitching, taught by Daniel Loustaunau from Colectivo Colmena, which will take place on Friday, March 21, from 14:00 to 16:00 hrs and will address the script as a starting point for cinematic creation.
During the festival, screenings, workshops, and panels will be held that offer spaces for reflection, learning, and strategic encounters for the industry. The inaugural screening of the festival will take place on March 19 with the film "Marino and the Authentic Ones."
Other workshops include the Short Film Screenplay workshop taught by María Conchita Díaz, the Analysis and Film Structure Workshop "Dreams of the South" led by Viridiana Martínez Marín, and the Creativity and Production in Animation workshop taught by Miguel Angel Uriegas and Genaro López from Estudio Fotosintesis.
Additionally, panels will be held such as "The Path of Independent Film Distribution in Mexico" where industry experts will reflect on challenges and opportunities in this area. Other topics to be addressed include "Filming in the Southeast, Women Filmmakers of Oaxaca" and "Looking into the Eyes of the Audience: Independent Exhibition in Mexico" where specialists will share their experiences and perspectives.
All activities will take place in venues such as the Instituto de Artes Gráficas de Oaxaca (IAGO), Sala Elia, Cineclub Piojo, Casa Itayata, Museo Infantil de Oaxaca (MIO), and other locations, and will be open to the general public at no cost. The complete program of the Oaxaca Festival can be consulted on its official website.
